Young Africans boss Miguel Gamondi declared himself “satisfied” after his side squandered chances galore in an entertaining 1-1 CAF Champions League draw with Medeama on Friday.
The Tanzanian giants dominated large spells against their Ghanaian hosts but failed to make it count in Kumasi.
“I am satisfied with the draw but we wanted to win and deserved to,” Gamondi told reporters post-match. “We dominated and there is room for improvement.”
Gamondi’s men faced a Medeama team flying high after a home win over Algerian outfit CS Belouizdad in their last group outing.
And the coach was full of praise for opponents he felt “fought and gave their best in a very tough group”.
Group D remains up for grabs after leaders Al Ahly were earlier held 0-0 by Belouizdad in Alexandria.
That result gives Yanga hope of still qualifying as they sit just two points behind the top two with two games left.
And Gamondi felt his side’s spirited fightback after falling behind to a Jonathan Mensah penalty showed they are heading in the right direction.
“From the mistakes in previous matches we are improving,” the Mexican stressed. “With time the team will come good.”
Gamondi revealed Yanga supporters recognise the team is “fighting in every match”, hailing their continued backing.
“Our fans see the players are giving their best and we will continue on this path,” he added.
Yanga now ready themselves for the second part of the double header with group opponents Medeama as they target progression to the knockout phase.
And on this evidence, they will head to Tanzania full of belief on 20 December despite leaving Ghana with one point.
