National Sports Authority Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has thanked former President John Dramani Mahama for appointing him to lead the NSA.
With extensive experience in sports journalism, Ampofo Ankrah aims to drive positive change in Ghana’s sports sector, particularly in football.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and appreciate the trust placed in me,” he said. Ampofo Ankrah plans to take a practical approach to address long-standing issues in Ghana’s sports infrastructure. He highlighted concerns with key national stadiums, including Cape Coast and Essipong Sports Stadiums.
“We have a lot of work to do. Cape Coast is not in the best shape—the grass is very bad—but we are working hard to fix it,” he said.
Ampofo Ankrah noted progress at Essipong Stadium but acknowledged challenges such as lack of electricity and land encroachment issues. Despite these issues, he is committed to restoring these facilities. Ampofo Ankrah’s experience and understanding of the sector will guide his efforts to improve Ghana’s sports landscape.
His focus is on finding solutions to long-standing problems and enhancing the country’s sporting infrastructure.
