Asante Kotoko’s hopes of advancing in the CAF Confederation Cup suffered a setback after a 1–0 home defeat to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors started brightly, threatening early on with a gilt-edged chance that went narrowly wide.
However, their wastefulness in front of goal proved costly as Wydad settled into the game, dictating the tempo and gradually pinning Kotoko back.
Just after halftime, a defensive lapse from a corner kick allowed a Wydad player to pounce inside the box and score the game’s only goal.
Kotoko’s troubles deepened moments later when goalkeeper Camara was shown a red card for handling the ball outside his area while attempting to stop a goal-bound strike.
The Ghanaian side now faces a daunting task in Casablanca, where they must overturn the deficit to keep their continental ambitions alive.
