World Cup 2022: We’re all set for the game – Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye on England clash

Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye says his side are ready and focused on beating England in the round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday.

The African champions had to beat Ecuador in their final Group A match to progress to the knock out stage, having secured second spot behind the Netherlands.

England have faced African opposition 20 times, including seven at a World Cup, and have yet to lose, however, Senegal will look to become the first African country to beat them.

“We’re all set for the game. Getting out of the group wasn’t our goal, we want to go far in this tournament,” said Gueye ahead of the game.

The Everton midfielder will miss the game through suspension after picking up a second yellow card of the group stages in the final game against Ecuador.

Senegal have reached the knockout stage of the World Cup for the second time, previously doing so in their first appearance in 2002 where they reached the quarter-final.
