Coach Otto Addo is looking forward to guiding Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which officially begins in Doha, Qatar.
Otto Addo, the Ghana national team’s head coach, has had an unusual build-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Appointed in February after Ghana’s poor performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, the 47-year-old led Ghana to book a ticket for the World Cup after overcoming Nigeria in a March play-off.
Ghana drew goalless with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Kumasi and drew 1-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in the second leg. Thomas Partey scored for Ghana while Troost Ekong scored for Nigeria.
“Of course, football is the number one sport in Germany, too. But for the Ghanaians, this World Cup is also an added bonus, because the country is not a big player internationally, politically and economically. Africa is generally underrepresented as a continent, so the World Cup is more than just a sporting event. For all the problems that exist in the country, every victory brings more peace and stability,” Otto Adoo told Ruhr Nachrichten.
“This is also a new experience for me. I was able to take part in 2006 as a player, and now as a coach. I’m looking forward to the challenge,”
“We’ve got some really good players, and as a team we can definitely spring a few surprises if everything goes right,”
The Black Stars of Ghana is in Group H alongside Uruguay, Portugal, and South Korea. Ghana will play Portugal on 24th November at the Stadium 974, South Korea on 28th November at the Education City Stadium, and play their final group game against Uruguay on 2nd December at the Al Janoub Stadium.
