World Cup 2022: Black Stars hold intense training session for Portugal game

Black Stars of Ghana held an intense training session ahead of their 2022 World Cup opener against Portugal on Thursday.

Coach Otto Addo put the players through their paces in bid to get his players fit and ready for the game.

Ghana, who arrived in Qatar on Friday evening played a pre-tournament friendly against Switzerland last week Thursday defeating the European country 2-0 thanks to goals by Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo.

All the players took part in the training session with no injury concern for coach Otto Addo.

The team will continue training on Tuesday where players are expected to have two separate sessions.

Coach Otto Addo has used different line-ups since taking charge of the team, however it is believed that the 47-year-old will use this training sessions to select his first choice starting XI.

The 47-year-old has been working really hard to make a mark at the World Cup which commenced on Sunday with Qatar losing to Ecuador.

Coach Addo will hope to get Ghana’s campaign up and running with a win over Portugal to increase their chances of progressing from the group stage, having exited at the same stage in the 2014 edition in Brazil.

Black Stars, who are the lowest-ranked team at the tournament have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.

Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

Ghana will be hoping to progress from the group stage at this year’s tournament.
