Wolves interested in Edin Dzeko

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Inter striker Edin Dzeko this summer and the veteran forward could be a superb addition to Bruno Lage’s side.

What’s the word?

According to reports from Italy, Wolves, Everton and Leicester City are keen on the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who is also attracting a lot of interest from Bundesliga and Serie A clubs.

Despite an impressive debut campaign with I Nerazzurri, Dzeko could be moved on this summer in order to make room for Paulo Dybala, who is wanted by Inter following his exit from Juventus.

The 36-year-old would likely demand a minimal fee, given his age, but his experience and goalscoring ability could be invaluable to Lage next season, given Wolves’ struggles in front of goal last season.

Would Dzeko be a good signing?

Only Norwich City, Watford and Burnley scored fewer goals than Wolves last season. Raul Jimenez finished as the top scorer with just six goals. Fabio Silva looks set to leave the club on loan.

Would Dzeko be a good signing?

All of these things suggest that the Old Gold desperately need a new striker for the 2022/23 campaign and while Dzeko isn’t the ideal option as a 36-year-old, he could be an excellent short-term option at Molineux.

The Bosnian has scored goals wherever he has been throughout his career, making his name at Wolfsburg before an impressive spell at Manchester City.

He showed no signs of slowing down when he joined Roma and his performances there earned him a move to Inter last summer, where he has been far from a failure, contributing 17 goals and ten assists in 48 appearances for the San Siro outfit.

During his time at Roma, the £152k-per-week Dzeko earned a lot of praise from manager Eusebio Di Francesco, who said:

“I must say, he’s an extraordinary player, and not just in terms of his finishing – he gets the team playing, brings the ball down and produces good service for his teammates.

“He’s a fantastic professional, his pre-match preparations are always spot-on.”

There is little to suggest that Dzeko wouldn’t score goals in the Premier League and given Lage’s need for a striker this summer, the Bosnian really could be the “perfect” – in the words of Luciano Spalletti – addition at Molineux.
