Former Ghana international William Kwabena Tierro has labelled Ghana’s group at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a difficult test that demands maximum focus.
The Black Stars were drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama following the official draw held in Washington on December 5.
Ghana booked one of Africa’s nine automatic qualification slots for the expanded 48-team tournament to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Tierro believes no opponent should be taken lightly in modern football.
“It won’t be easy for Ghana at the World Cup. It will be a disaster should Ghana underestimate any of our group opponents. For me, there are no minnows in the game anymore because football has evolved,” he told Kessben FM.
He specifically cautioned against underrating Panama, noting their growing pedigree on the global stage.
“You underrate Panama at their own risk. Our style is similar to that of South America and North America. For Panama to qualify from this continent justifies their capabilities heading into the World Cup.”
The former defender stressed the importance of serious preparation ahead of the tournament.
“Our group is not easy at all. I will urge Ghana to prepare well for the tournament,” he added.
