As excitement builds for the upcoming Unity Cup, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has clarified the reasons behind the absence of several key Black Stars players.
A combination of injuries, club commitments, and planned rest periods has influenced head coach Otto Addo’s selection.
Some of the most notable omissions include Mohammed Kudus, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah, Elisha Owusu, and Antoine Semenyo, all of whom are nursing minor injuries.
While the setbacks are not deemed serious, the technical team has decided to sideline the players as a precautionary measure to ensure their full recovery ahead of future competitions.
Other players, including Tariq Lamptey, Alidu Seidu, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Abdul Mumin, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Iñaki Williams, are also unavailable due to ongoing recovery from various injuries.
Several players have been ruled out due to club obligations. Jerome Opoku, Kingsley Schindler, and Alexander Djiku were not released by their clubs, with the Turkish football season still in progress. In North America, Joseph Paintsil and Osman Bukari remain engaged in Major League Soccer duties, while Jonas Adjetey is preparing for FC Basel’s Swiss Cup final on June 1st.
Head coach Otto Addo has also opted to give Thomas Partey and Michael Baidoo a rest following long, demanding club seasons. The decision is part of a broader strategy to manage player workload and maintain peak fitness for more critical international assignments later in the year.
The GFA, addressing concerns over the depleted squad, reassured fans that every decision has been made in the best interest of the team’s long-term success.
Supporters have been urged to back the available squad, which includes several rising talents looking to make their mark on the international stage.
Despite the high-profile absences, Ghana approaches the Unity Cup with determination and the goal of building cohesion, confidence, and momentum under Otto Addo’s leadership.
