West Ham United manager David Moyes has underscored the significance of Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus, acknowledging his crucial role for any team he represents.
As Kudus gears up to join Ghana for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, Moyes expressed the midfielder’s importance, emphasizing that he would be vital for any squad.
Despite West Ham’s attempt to include Kudus in a match against Brighton and Hove before his AFCON departure, Ghana declined, citing concerns about the player’s injury risk.
Moyes, speaking ahead of the Brighton fixture, acknowledged Kudus’ value, stating, ‘He is a really important player, so he will be to any team. We are hoping that there is a chance he could be [available for Brighton].’
Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, later confirmed Kudus’ slight injury issue during a press conference and revealed that the midfielder would join the national team at a later date.
The Black Stars are drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in the AFCON tournament, slated from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
