West Brom can unleash Sawyers next season

West Bromwich Albion are set to make big changes next season to ensure they put themselves in a better position to secure promotion back to the Premier League, with Steve Bruce revealing details about the future at The Hawthorns.

The four-time Championship promotion-winning manager told Birmingham Live;

“I think we need to freshen the whole squad up. How big? I would think it would be substantial – I hope.

“I think we need as many as five or six – a major overhaul is needed.”

With that being said, the Baggies will need to put together a strategy to achieve what they set out for this summer and will need to make smart business moves to ensure they can acquire the squad needed to boost their chances of promotion in the 2022/23 season.

One player who could not only save the club millions but also become an impactful force in the centre of the pitch for the Baggies next season is Romaine Sawyers, who is currently on a season-long loan and thriving at Stoke City.

The 30-year-old was hailed as the “Championship Zidane” by Stoke legend Mike Pejic after an impressive season at his former club, and when you consider Sawyer’s statistics it’s no wonder Pejic holds him in such high regard.

In his 24 appearances for the Championship side, Sawyers has bagged two goals and three assists, whilst making 0.8 key passes on average per game and keeping up a 90% pass accuracy in his own half, proving that he can be highly effective in building attacking play for his loan club and this output has already caught the eye of Bruce over at The Hawthorns.

Introducing the Saint Kitts and Nevis international back into the team alongside Jake Livermore, who dubbed Sawyers as “fantastic”, and Taylor Gardner-Hickman could be the key to unlocking promotion success next season, especially if they could encourage the forward line to be more clinical in finishing their chances.

Should West Brom bring back Romaine Sawyers?

The former Newcastle United manager spoke out about the Birmingham born midfielder’s future at the club ahead of the 3-1 defeat to Stoke City last month saying;

“He is in my thoughts, I’ve always liked him as a player. I’ll sit down with him in the summer.”

If West Brom can get Sawyers back in the squad ahead of next season it could be a huge coup for Bruce enabling him to save money to spend in other key areas that require improvement next season.
