Werder Bremen seeking domestic double over Hoffenheim

Werder Bremen defeated Hoffenheim 2-1 away earlier this season in the Bundesliga. On Sunday, the Green and White are seeking a second straight win over the Hoff and a chance to move into the Bundesliga’s top 10.

Hoffenheim are struggling to retain their Bundesliga status. The Blues are 15th and one point above the relegation-playoff place.

A 3-1 win against Hertha Berlin in a relegation six-pointer last time out took Hoffenheim out of the bottom three. The Blues are desperate to win against Bremen, as a loss could send them back into the relegation zone.

Werder Bremen went into the march international break at the right time. The Green and White took just four points from the last six matches in the division. They were outscored 11-8 by opponents.

Bremen are an up-and-down team at home, with five wins, one draw, and seven defeats. They posted a +1-goal difference at home.

Hoffenheim may be coming off a win over Hertha Berlin, another relegation-threatened team, but they are not out of the woods yet. Hoffenheim are on their second coach of the season, as former Stuttgart head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo took over in February.

Matarazzo struggled to get results in the beginning. He lost the first five matches in charge of the Blues before defeating Hertha Berlin.

Despite making a coaching change, Hoffenheim may not be rescued. Matarazzo regularly fought relegation while coaching Stuttgart.

Hoffenheim are bottom of the Bundesliga form table, with three points from the last 18 points on offer. They were outscored 9-5 across the last six matches. The Blues lost each of their last six matches away from home in the Bundesliga.

Both Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim have been guilty of poor defending. Bremen conceded the second-most goals in 25 games with 48. Hoffenheim did a little better, conceding 45 times in 25 games.

Matarazzo will be without forward Munas Dabbur due to a suspension. Kasper Dolberg is likely to miss following a head injury. Justin Che and Jacob Bruun Larsen are both doubts to make the team. Midfielder Grischa Promel is out of action with a broken arm.

Werder coach Ole Werner could be without goalkeeper Dudu due to an illness. Defender Felix Agu is a doubt following a tendon injury.

Hoffenheim may have won last time out, but this is a very bad team in 2022-23. Relegation could occur and Werder Bremen should add to Hoffenheim’s problems. Werder Bremen should win 3-1.
