Ghana coach Otto Addo says he will decide on who becomes Black Stars number 1 goalkeeper in June, during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Otto Addo handed call ups to four goalkeepers for the international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda but Bolivia-based goalie David Akologo dropped out of the squad.

Jojo Wollacot, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, and Frederick Asare are the three goalkeepers currently in camp.

Ati-Zigi, who plies his trade for St Gallen in Switzerland kept the post when the Black Stars succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria last Friday.

Speaking ahead of Uganda clash today, Otto Addo disclosed he is yet to settle on who becomes the Black Stars first choice goalkeeper and thus, he will keep monitoring them at club level to make a decision in June during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“I am not quite sure yet. I left it open. I have to say that Ati-Zigi had a good match. I gave him the start because he is a regular player in his club”

“Frederick is new and young. I think he made a good first impression. He is very, very calm on the ball and has a good technique in the goal”

“Joseph Wollacott at the moment is not playing in his club so it’s difficult to say that he will be the number one at the moment but I think tomorrow I will give him the chance to play and to show himself and we will keep on watching them and observing them and we will decide in June who will be the goalkeeper who will stand in the goal” he said.

With Ghana leading the head-to-head record 7-3, Addo’s side aims to maintain their dominance over Uganda. Their most recent encounter in October 2017 ended in a goalless draw during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The game will be streamed on the Ghana Football App and the official Ghana Football Association YouTube page
