Bayern Munich v Arsenal
Champions League at the Allianz Arena, Munich
TV: TNT Sports 2, Wednesday, 8:00pm

We have a monster Champions League quarter-final ahead of us on Wednesday with Bayern Munich hosting Arsenal at the Allianz Arena. A week ago the Gunners were favourites to qualify, then they drew 2-2 at the Emirates before losing to Aston Villa on Sunday. A defeat here isn’t thinkable for Mikel Arteta or the Arsenal fans but Bayern have nothing else to play for, with Bayer Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga this past weekend.

Arsenal to Win

Last week Arsenal were heavy favourites to win and now it’s Bayern who are the shorter price to take the victory. Sure, they drew last week at the Emirates but Arsenal dominated possession, had more shots and had double the amount on target. It’s a game that they would win the majority of the time.

Since then they’ve had a 0-2 defeat to Aston Villa that’s hit their Premier League hopes but Bayern only managed a 2-0 win over Koln who are in the relegation zone. This is a Bayern team who have failed to hit their potential consistently this season and although they have the quality to win this game, it’s Arsenal who have shown themselves to be the better team on a more consistent basis.

Bukayo Saka to Score or Assist

Arsenal’s most dangerous player comes into this game on a good run of form and bagged against the Bavarians just last week. In eight appearances in the Champions League, he’s scored four goals and assisted a further four, averaging a goal contribution every game.

Domestically he’s had another great season with 14 goals and eight assists in 30 Premier League games. He leads the team in terms of shots per game in the league and will fancy his chances against Bayern, who have conceded two or more goals in four of their past five games.

Harry Kane to Score

Harry Kane was always going to score on his return to North London last week and he obliged as he scored from the spot. That was his seventh goal in the Champions League this season, where he sits as the second-highest scorer in the competition.

He’s scored a truckload of goals at the Allianz Arena this season, with 32 goals in 29 Bundesliga games and the home fans are well accustomed to his scoring, something he has a very good chance to do again. With an average of 4.6 shots per Bundesliga game we know that Kane will go for goal if he sniffs a chance.

A Goals Score in Both Halves

Last week’s game saw four goals scored, split unequally with three in the first half and one in the second half. We’re likely to see goals shared between both halves again here. Bayern have conceded more than a goal per game in the league and their 2-0 win over Koln was their first clean sheet in six games.

Arsenal are the second-highest-scoring team in the Premier League and Bayern are, despite their struggles this season, still the Bundesliga’s top scorers. We’re likely to see goals again on Wednesday night.

Matthijs de Ligt to be Shown a Card

The Dutchman comes into this game with a poor disciplinary record. He’s played just 19 times in the Bundesliga, of which five came from the bench and yet he’s been booked five times.

The 24-year old has struggled to find his best form and is likely to start at the heart of Bayern’s defence. The movement of Arsenal’s attacks are likely to cause him problems and he’s nicely-priced to be Shown a Card.
