Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans of revitalizing the Black Stars on the back of the downturn in performance, if elected.
The Black Stars got eliminated from the first round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after failing to pick up a win in three matches.
The recent AFCON group-stage elimination is the third time Ghana has failed to progress, to the knockout phase of a major tournament in two years.
The NDC Flagbearer says his administration will focus on home-based players as the core of the senior national team.
“We will build the new Black Stars based on home grown players, the core of the team must be made by domestic players.” Mahama told the press in Yendi.
“We performed abysmally in the AFCON because we are not growing our football and need to start the game by catching them young and we can only do that in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association to improve the Black Stars.” He added.
Ghana lost to cape Verde in the open game before recording draws against Egypt and Mozambique respectively.
