We need competition in the Black Stars – Emmanuel Agyemang Badu

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu says there needs to be serious competition among players in the Black Stars team following an unimpressive performance in recent times.

The former Ghana international is concerned about the dwindling fortunes of the national team.

The four-time African champions endured a very tough October international break, losing all two games and conceding 6 goals in the process.

Ghana succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium last Saturday before their heavy defeat against The Yanks of USA at the Geodis Stadium.

“No one cemented his position in the Black Stars considering the fall out of friendlies against Mexico and USA. I don’t think the FA, technical team and the players themselves are happy, so there is no player who has cemented a place in the national team”

“For competition, I agree, we need competition so players won’t feel untouchable. If you are selected to among the 23 players and given a starting role, you should be privilege and work hard”

“It’s difficult for me to talk about players because of where I am coming from but I will plead with the players to up their game. The coach can do whatever he can but it is the players who have to step up during matches. Now, what we are relying on is individual brilliance which is not helping the team. Assuming those players are unable to perform, what will happen? It’s hard time we need to be a bit hard on them but to manage it well because some are young and doesn’t have the experience” he said.
