Head coach Ibrahim Tanko believes Sunday’s clash offers Medeama SC the perfect chance to stop their worrying slide and reignite their Ghana Premier League title charge.
The league leaders will host Hohoe United in a crucial Week 25 encounter in Tarkwa, with pressure mounting after Medeama’s once commanding lead at the top dramatically shrank.
Just weeks ago, the Mauve and Yellow enjoyed a nine-point cushion, but a troubling run of four matches without victory ; three draws and one defeat has reduced that advantage to just a single point.
Meanwhile, defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars have surged into contention with four straight victories, turning what once looked like a comfortable title march into a fierce battle.
“We have to concentrate on the last 10 games and then try to win our matches, especially starting on Sunday against Hohoe,” Tanko stressed ahead of the decisive fixture.
The emphasis on “especially” highlights the urgency surrounding Medeama’s situation. Another slip could see Gold Stars leapfrog them at the summit and seize the psychological edge in the title race.
Yet Tanko insists the championship fight is far from over, pointing out that key showdowns still lie ahead.
“Bibiani will come to us; we will also go to play Accra Hearts of Oak,” he noted, hinting at decisive battles still to come.
But before those heavyweight clashes arrive, Hohoe United stand directly in Medeama’s path.
