Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has praised his side’s transformation this season, highlighting a remarkable turnaround from last year’s relegation battle to a top-four finish in the Ghana Premier League.
the Kpando-based club sits fourth on the table with 57 points ; just three points shy of league leaders Nations FC. It’s a significant improvement from the previous season, when they were locked in a tense struggle for survival.
In a pre-match interview ahead of Sunday’s season finale against Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Coach Hayford expressed pride in his players’ consistency and resilience.
“I’m very very satisfied. We targeted for ourselves that we don’t want to struggle like we struggled last season. And everybody will see that we have accomplished our aim because we didn’t struggle like we struggled last season to avoid relegation,” Hayford stated.
Appointed to bring stability and experience to the Heart of Lions dugout, the veteran coach has overseen a campaign that has seen the team evolve into genuine contenders, holding their own against traditional powerhouses in the league.
Regardless of the final outcome, Hayford believes the progress made this season has laid the foundation for bigger ambitions next year.
Heart of Lions’ impressive home form, tactical discipline, and renewed confidence have been central to their rise ; a far cry from last season’s nervy finish.
Kick-off for their final clash of the season against Nations FC is scheduled for 3:00 PM on June 8.
