Asante Kotoko lifted the MTN FA Cup trophy after defeating Golden Kick in Sunday’s final courtesy of a Kwame Opoku brace.
Opoku’s first goal, a header from close range, set the tone in the first half, while his second goal from the spot in the dying embers from the penalty spot sealed the win.
The win marked a fitting end to the season for the Porcupine Warriors, who finished fourth in the league.
“We can’t go trophyless for all the hard work we’ve put in, so I’m very happy,” Opoku told 3Sports after the match.
“We are Asante Kotoko, we can’t go trophyless. We were supposed to win the league, but unfortunately, we didn’t win it. So we were supposed to do something for my club, so I’m happy we won this FA Cup.”
The FA Cup win ensured Kotoko finished the season with a trophy and book a spor in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Opoku praised the team’s performance, saying, “I’ll say we’ve done well this season.”
Followong Sunday’s victory, only Hearts of Oak (12) have now won more FA Cup titles than Kotoko (10).
