‘WAIT OVER’: Mohammed Salisu finally answers Ghana’s call

The long wait is officially over after Mohammed Salisu accepted an invite to the Black Stars ahead of the international friendly matches against Brazil and Nicaragua later this month.

There had been several unsuccessful attempts by the Ghana FA over the last three years to persuade the Southampton FC defender to change his stance about representing the four-time African Champions.

However, after meetings with head coach Otto Addo and the president of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku in June this year, Salisu has finally ended his self imposed exile to play for the national team.

The 23-year-old centre-back is now line to make his debut when Ghana face Brazil on Friday, September 23, at Stade Oceane in Le Harve- France before taking on Nicaragua three days later at Estadio Francisco Artes Carrasco in Spain.

He was named alongside four other debutants including Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams, Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey, Stephan Ambrosius of Karlsruher SC and Hamburg’s Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer .

Hearts of Oak attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was the only home based player listed in Otto Addo’s 29-man squad.

Ghana is expected to play the two matches as part of preparation towards the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November/December.
