Ghana’s National Under-17 team, the Black Starlets begin their campaign in the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 tournament with a mouthwatering clash against  Ivory Coast in the opening game of the tournament in Accra on Wednesday afternoon.

The stage is set for an electrifying showdown as the two sides ready themselves for a thrilling encounter at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium at 16:00GMT.

Ghana enters the tournament with a sense of determination and confidence, having gone through an extensive preparation that included 10 local friendly matches with clubs and 4 international friendlies. These preparatory games have not only improved the skills of the players but also built a cohesive team spirit within the squad.

The fact that Ghana is hosting the tournament adds an extra layer of motivation for the Ghanaian squad, who are keen to kick off their campaign with a resounding victory over Ivory Coast.

A win in the opening game is seen as crucial in setting the tone for Ghana’s qualification bid for the 2025 U17 AFCON. With aspirations running high,  Ghana is determined to break the qualification drought that has plagued the nation since 2017.

However, standing in Ghana’s path is a formidable Ivory Coast team, armed with their own arsenal of talent.  Having played two international friendlies against heavyweights Argentina and France, the Ivorian side exudes confidence and determination to pose a tough challenge for their Ghanaian counterparts.

As the two teams prepare to lock horns on Wednesday, football enthusiasts can expect a pulsating encounter filled with skill, determination, and fierce competition.
