Midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe believes Ghana’s impressive run at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has sharpened the Black Queens ahead of their upcoming showdown with Egypt in the final qualifying round for the next WAFCON tournament.
Ghana will travel to Cairo for the first leg on October 20 before hosting the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 28, as both nations battle for a place at the 2026 continental showpiece.
Reflecting on Ghana’s campaign in Morocco where the Queens clinched a historic bronze medal, Cudjoe says the experience has left the team well-prepared for the challenge ahead.
“They [Egypt] are also going to be a good test for us, but I feel like we’re just ready. I feel like this tournament has given us the upper hand to build on something,” she told Citi Sports.
The Black Queens’ third-place finish marked their best performance at the WAFCON since 2016 and has reignited hopes of a deeper run in the next edition.
A semifinal finish in 2026 would automatically secure Ghana a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
