Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has admitted that Ghana’s semi-final clash against host nation Morocco will be a tough challenge, as his side pushes for a historic spot in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking after Ghana’s penalty shootout win over Algeria in the quarter-finals, the Swedish tactician praised his players’ resilience but emphasized the difficulty of turning around quickly for the next crucial game.
“I wish that we had one or two more days, but that’s the life as a football player and a coach. To mentally recover, and for them, maybe more physical recovery and then be ready to do everything we can in the semi-final.
“Of course, it’s going to be a hard job for our medical team now to help the players to be as ready as possible,” Björkegren said.
The Black Queens defeated Algeria 4-2 on penalties after a hard-fought draw, sealing their first semi-final appearance since 2016.
Ghana now face tournament hosts Morocco on July 22 for a spot in the final, and the coach is counting on quick recovery and tactical discipline to keep the dream alive.
