The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates, while withholding the results of nine candidates over suspected collusion.
The results have been uploaded to WAEC’s official website, allowing candidates to access them online.
A total of 2,987 candidates registered for the examination, which was held at centres in selected regional capitals across the regions. The candidates comprised 1,618 males and 1,369 females.
WAEC said 101 registered candidates were absent from the examination.
The council’s decision to withhold nine results follows the detection of suspected collusion during the marking process. The affected scripts will undergo further scrutiny before any final decision is made.
Candidates whose results have been withheld have been directed to WAEC’s irregularities and investigations platform for more information. They must select the “withheld/cancelled” button on the platform’s homepage.
After clicking the relevant option, candidates will be redirected to a page explaining the reasons for the action and setting out the next steps they are required to follow.
WAEC described the published results as provisional. Its statement did not provide further details about the nature of the suspected collusion or indicate when the review of the nine scripts would be completed.
