Charlton manager Chris Powell has laughed off rumours that the club are about to sign Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on loan from English Premier League side Arsenal.
Frimpong, who has been a faithful servant to the Gunners since the age of nine, has struggled for playing time this season.
This led to speculation that he might return to Charlton where he was once on loan.
However, Charlton manager Powell has played down the reports insisting he has no plans of bringing the Ghana international to the club.
A surprised Powell laughed when asked about the report of his move for Frimpong, asking: “Joining here?…… No chance.”
Frimpong has spent most of his last two seasons either on loan or on a treatment table.
Two separate cruciate ligament injuries and unconvincing loan spells at Wolves, Charlton and Fulham appeared to have called time on his Arsenal career.
The Ghanaian international was on the Gunners bench when they shockingly lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa in their opening Premier League fixture.
The Daily Mail even speculated that he could be allowed to join the Cottagers for free.
That hasn’t come to pass, but it’s surely just a matter of time until Frimpong is allowed to leave and find a permanent home for his tenacious tackling.
