Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has disclosed that plans are underway to roll out the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Ghana Premier League.
According to him, the process has started with the Referee’s manager engaging key stakeholders in the implementation of the system.
The Ghana FA earlier announced that a pilot system will be in place for the 2022/23 season before it full takes off.
However, the use of the VAR is very expensive, according to the GFA president it’s usage will be gradually integrated into domestic football.
“We are going through the process of using the VAR in our leagues. Our referees’ manager Alex Kotei has been at the forefront of dealing with FIFA and we are exploring the possibility of using the technology.
“But what is true also is that it’s too expensive,” Kurt Okraku told GTV Sports Plus.
The first VAR used in Ghana was at the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last month.
The VAR helped to overturn decisions in both legs during the crucial World Cup players
