VfL Bochum are aiming to stay out of the relegation zone when they meet with Union Berlin in the German capital as the home side looks to stay in third with just seven games left on the clock for Urs Fischer’s men to get Champions League football.

Union are heading into this game with seven points keeping them adrift of Bayern Munich and just five keeping them behind Borussia Dortmund.

It still keeps the club mathematically well within the title race with 21 points still left on the board, but with RB Leipzig within three points of them, the club will be looking over their shoulder before this game.

Union have now won 15 games from 27 outings and lost just six times, but with only 30 goals let in, only Bayern Munich’s record of 29 is better than Union’s defensive record in the Bundesliga.

Last time out, the men from the capital lost 2-1 to Dortmund away from home as Kevin Behrens scored in the 61st minute of the game to equalise at the time before Youssofa Moukoko scored the winning goal 10 minutes from time.

After also losing in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals to Eintracht Frankfurt, it means Union’s only wins in the past month have been against Frankfurt in the league and Stuttgart too.

They were also beaten 6-3 on aggregate by Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League round of 16 during March.

As for Bochum, they’ve drawn with Eintracht Frankfurt away from home and lost to Stuttgart at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion over the past two weeks since the international break ended.

Prior to this run, however, the struggling Bundesliga side managed to stun RB Leipzig in a 1-0 win at home as Erhan Masovic scored in the second half of a game that saw the club have just 30% of the ball.

Despite that excellent win, it was just their eighth victory of the season in the Bundesliga and by losing 17 times in the division, it now means no team in the league has lost more than them.

Worse yet, Bochum are still only three points clear of Stuttgart in the relegation fight and could easily get pulled into the play-off spot this weekend because of their terrible goals difference.

Forebet predicts a win for Union as they remain in third place with the game expected to see over 2.5 goals in Berlin.
