The surprise package of the European season are back in action this weekend Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei with Union Berlin welcoming Borussia Monchengladbach to the German capital as they aim to stay ahead of Bayern Munich.

Barely any side in Europe have climbed their own domestic scene like Union have in recent seasons.

In fact, in what is just their third season in the Bundesliga, the club are stunning Germany by sitting top of the table in the top flight and one point ahead of Bayern Munich.

Over time, there is an expectation for the champions to overtake them and eventually win the Bundealiga, but for now, Union have won seven games from the 11 outings so far, which no other side in Germany’s top flight can match.

Better yet, alongside the champions Bayern, they are the best defensive side in the league so far with just eight goals let in. On the other hand, although not really a concern, the club have scored just 19 goals so far, which is the same amount as the ninth-placed Gladbach.

The form for the Bundesliga leaders doesn’t just run through Germany, however, with the club sitting second in their Europa League group and now ahead of Braga in third after defeating the Primeira Liga’s side 1-0 thanks to a penalty on Thursday.

Moreover, Union also managed to beat Heidenheim in the second round of the DFB-pokal too, while also beating Malmo earlier in the month in the Europa League too.

In fact, combine this with their stunning 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund, they do now sit with just two losses in October with them also beating Stuttgart in the league too.

VfL Bochum, however, did manage to beat them 2-1 last time out in the Bundesliga, three weeks after Eintracht Frankfurt did the same to them – these are their only domestic losses so far.

As for Gladbach, they’ve been way better this season compared to the struggles of last season that saw them end up fighting relegation for the majority of the campaign.

They are ninth in the table under former Norwich City manager, Daniel Farke, and he is so far doing a solid job with the club.

On the other hand, by losing to Darmstadt in the second round of the DFB-Pokal two weeks back, they still have a lot to work on.  Combine this with their recent 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg and a 3-1 loss to Frankfurt last weekend, and it does mean they are on a three-game losing run.

Forebet predicts a win for Union and over 2.5 goals.
