There are just two games remaining of the German top flight season and this Saturday features the upcoming clash between 4th placed Freiburg and their 7th placed visitors, Union Berlin, with both teams requiring all three points as they look to further boost their chances of European involvement next season.
Freiburg sit in 4th spot and therefore the last Champions League spot for next season but the hosts hold a slender one-point cushion above 5th placed RB Leipzig prior to this weekend’s action in the Bundesliga.
Freiburg are unbeaten in their last four matches in the Bundesliga, recording three wins and a draw with victories achieved over Eintracht Frankfurt, Bochum and Hoffenheim along with gaining a point in a draw with Borussia M’gladbach as well.
Indeed, the bigger picture shows Freiburg have lost just one of their last 11 matches overall in the German top flight which includes six wins, but only three of these six victories were collected on home soil at their Europa-Park Stadion.
Freiburg have lost just one of their last nine home games but only three of these games have seen the hosts win by 2 goals or more.
Union Berlin also have plenty of incentive to do well ahead of this upcoming trip to the Europa-Park Stadion as the visitors know that all three points on Saturday could see them jump back up into the top six in the Bundesliga.
After having had to endure a sticky patch of results from early February through to id-March which produced just the one league win in the German top flight for Union Berlin, coming in the shape of a 3-1 home win over Mainz but also including five defeats, the visitors have since staged an impressive recovery.
Union Berlin have put together a solid looking five-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga which has lifted them back into serious contention for a possible top six finish this season and includes four wins within this recent period.
Victories over the likes of FC Cologne, Hertha Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig have helped lift the visitors to within striking distance of the top six and they should not be under estimated this Saturday.
Freiburg have lost just once in their last seven meetings against Freiburg so the visitors look a decent proposition with the handicap here on Saturday.
