Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei has been impressed with Ghana’s performances at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations despite the team’s failure to qualify for the U20 World Cup.
Ghana were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the competition after suffering a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to hosts Egypt.
Progression to the semi-finals would have secured an automatic qualification for Ghana to the forthcoming U20 World Cup in Chile.
The Black Satellites failure to qualify for the tournament meant that for the fifth successive time, Ghana will not be participating on the global stage.
However, despite Ghana’s failure to qualify for the World Cup in a decade, there’s a lot of positives to take away from the competition.
From a new study, the Black Satellites lead the way in a number of metrics from the tournament, underscores the team’s ability to adapt to coach Ofei’s play.
Desmond Ofei has been satisfied with his side’s display, particularly the fearlessness and boldness.
“While the ultimate goal of World Cup qualification slipped away, the foundation is strong, and the future is bright. This group has laid down a marker for what Ghanaian football can look like at the highest level.
Thank you to everyone who supported us on this journey. We keep building, “Ofei said.
