The Zambian women’s national team has suffered a devastating blow with the sudden death of 24-year-old forward Norin Betani.
The devastating news was confirmed by the Zambian Football Association on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the football community.
Betani, a promising talent within the team, had reported feeling unwell upon arrival at the camp and was swiftly admitted to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals and the unwavering support of her family, teammates, and club, Indeni Roses, Betani’s condition took a turn for the worse.
In a statement expressing deep sorrow, the General Secretary of the Zambian Football Association, Kamanga, conveyed the organization’s profound regret at the loss of Betani, who had been part of the provisional squad for the upcoming match against Ghana.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of Norin Betani, a cherished member of our football family,” Kamanga expressed. “Throughout her hospitalization, FAZ, alongside her family and club, remained steadfast in offering support and care.”
Betani’s situation escalated, leading to her transfer to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) on Monday, where she remained under close medical supervision until her tragic demise.
