Trabzonspor wins Turkish Süper Lig title after 38-year hiatus

Trabzonspor have won the Turkish league for the first time in 38 years, sparking wild celebrations from their fans.

Fans surged onto the pitch before the conclusion of their 2-2 tie with Antalyaspor, but they then cleared away to allow the game to conclude.

They lead Fenerbahce by nine points – and have a stronger head-to-head record – with three games remaining.

This is the Black Sea Storm’s eighth championship – they won five consecutive titles from 1975 to 1976 and another in 1983-84.

They are one of just six teams to have ever won the Turkish championship.

Besiktas earned the trophy last season after Istanbul Basaksehir’s historic first title win in 2019-20.
