Trabzonspor star Mohamed Salah set for street tribute in Yomra

The Yomra municipal council in Turkey is preparing to name the street where Mohamed Salah will live after the Egypt forward joined Trabzonspor.

Salah’s new home is on Selvi Street in the Kasustu neighbourhood of Yomra, a district in Trabzon. Renovation work is still being carried out at the property, according to Turkish website Haberler, with the player expected to move in soon.

The proposal to rename the street “Mohamed Salah Street” was put forward by Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık. The municipal council is expected to vote on the change this week, after which the formal process of updating the street’s name is expected to be completed.

Bıyık said on X that the district was delighted that Salah would be living there and described the player’s arrival as a major moment for Trabzonspor and Turkish football.

“We are immensely happy that Mohamed Salah will live in our district,” he said.

“Salah is one of the most important signings not only in the history of Trabzonspor, but also in the history of Turkish football. We feel enormous pride and happiness that a global football star of this stature will live in Yomra.”

The mayor also said Salah’s presence could increase the area’s commercial value and strengthen its identity.

“Salah’s residence in Yomra will also make a major contribution to the commercial value and brand of our district,” he added. “Having a footballer of this level and worldwide fame in Yomra is something special for us. That is why we want to name the street where he will live after Salah and make this period a lasting part of Yomra’s history.”

The move follows the announcement that Salah has recently joined Trabzonspor. His arrival has been presented locally as one of the biggest transfers in the club’s history, as well as a landmark signing for Turkish football.

In a post shared on social media, Bıyık wrote in Turkish: “We are immensely proud that Mohamed Salah, the biggest transfer in the history of Turkish football, will live in our district. With the council decision we will take this week, we will name the street where Salah’s house is located ‘Mohamed Salah Avenue’. We did everything we could; now it is Salah’s turn.”

The municipal authorities have not yet formally changed the name. That decision is expected during this week’s council meeting, with the remaining administrative steps to follow once the vote has been approved.

Until then, work will continue at the house in Kasustu where Salah is due to live. If the proposal is accepted, the street will carry the name of the new Trabzonspor forward and mark his arrival in Yomra.
