Toulouse FC has revealed that midfielder Abu Francis is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a severe leg injury during Ghana’s defeat to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup.
The incident occurred when the Ghana international attempted to block a shot from Ao Tanaka, resulting in a broken leg that left him in clear distress before being stretchered off.
His return to the Black Stars setup, after missing the last two call-ups, ended abruptly as he could not continue the match.
The French club later issued a statement confirming the extent of the damage and hinted that his participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is now in serious doubt.
“After sustaining a terrible injury against the Japanese, our midfielder will be sidelined for several months and will, unfortunately, likely miss the 2026 World Cup in the United States…,” Toulouse said.
The midfielder is expected to travel back to France, where he will begin his rehabilitation in the coming days.
His long-term absence also presents a fresh challenge for Toulouse, who now lose one of their key midfield options.
With months of recovery ahead, the club and country must plan without him for a significant period.
