Tough-talking NSA boss Prof. Peter Twumasi suffers humiliating defeat at NPP Parliamentary elections

The National Sports Authority’s Director General, Prof. Peter Twumasi, experienced a significant setback as he faced defeat in his pursuit of a parliamentary seat.

Contesting for the Ahafo Ano South West constituency under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Twumasi found himself at the bottom of the ranks in a four-person race, securing a mere 7 votes out of the 364 cast.

Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah emerged victorious in the primary election with an overwhelming 357 votes, leaving Twumasi trailing far behind. This defeat dashes Twumasi’s aspirations of representing the constituency in the upcoming elections.

The outcome of Twumasi’s bid is likely to evoke varied reactions, particularly within the sports industry. While some may perceive his failure to secure the party’s nomination as a setback, others might see it as a positive turn of events, considering the controversies surrounding his tenure as NSA boss.

During Twumasi’s leadership, the NSA faced criticism for its handling of issues such as the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium during the festive season and the directive for football clubs to construct their own stadiums. These decisions drew widespread condemnation from sports industry stakeholders, leading to calls for Twumasi’s resignation.

Despite the challenges, Twumasi maintained optimism about his chances in the primary election, expressing confidence in his track record and contributions to the party. However, his poor showing at the polls indicates that his ambitions may have been overly optimistic.
