Everton and Liverpool are set to meet in the 242nd Merseyside derby this weekend with the Reds aiming for their 98th win in the fixture and the Toffees just their 67th victory.
Everton have barely had anything to shout about over Liverpool since the Premier League began in 1992, with the club going on lengthy runs without a trophy and barely a point to take away from Anfield in the past 31 years.

Here, we take a look at Everton’s top five moments in Merseyside derby history.
Everton Finally Win at Anfield (2021)
The pandemic times were tough for Liverpool. Indeed, they lifted the Premier League title in the year of 2020, but the following campaign, they saw five defeats in a row at Anfield for the first time under Jurgen Klopp, as Everton heaped on the misery with a 2-0 win in front of the Kop.
Richarlison scored after three minutes that day before Gylfi Sigurdsson scored from the penalty spot in the last 10 minutes, and it was the first time the Toffees had won on Liverpool’s home turf since 1999.
Graeme Sharp’s Stunner at Anfield (1984)
Prior to the Premier League beginning in 1992, there were years when Everton had great success over their city rivals. In 1983/84, the Reds were on their way to winning a league title just one year prior to Everton winning the First Division trophy in 1984/85.
However, that goal by Sharp in 1984 at Anfield was the biggest step the Toffees had taken in terms of getting ahead of Liverpool in the title race for which they ended up finishing three clear of against the Reds.
An FA Cup Triumph (2009)
On the way to the FA Cup final in 2009 that Everton lost to Chelsea, the Blues met with their arch rivals in the fourth round. A draw at Anfield forced a replay at Goodison Park where the Toffees won it deep into extra time.
Teenager Dan Gosling was the hero that day as he twisted and turned inside the Liverpool area before bending an effort way beyond Pepe Reina to seal a 1-0 win.
The End of an Era for Liverpool (1991)
A game that is often regarded as the end of Liverpool’s dominance in English football and just one year prior to the Premier League’s beginnings. The game finished 4-4 at Goodison Park, as Everton went down on four different occasions.
After the chaos of the 4-4 draw, Kenny Dalglish resigned two days later and it’s fair to say that this was the last we saw of Liverpool at the top for almost 30 years.
