Nations FC CEO Dr. Kwame Kyei says no league title is worth the life of a player or fan following violent scenes during their Ghana Premier League clash with Basake Holy Stars.
The Matchday 33 encounter at the Ampain AAK II Arena ended in chaos after controversial penalties awarded to the home team sparked protests from Nations FC players.
The situation quickly escalated, leading to physical attacks on Dr. Kyei and the club president, Divine Kyei.
As a result, Nations FC boycotted the remainder of the match.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Dr. Kyei expressed deep disappointment with the events at Ayinase.
“I was not pleased with what happened at Ayinase, and I have never seen anything like that before. I don’t care if I will suffer a point deduction and even lose the Ghana Premier League title, because for me to win a league and someone will die, I will never accept that,” he said.
“Three points are not worth a life. Our fans were not even allowed into the stadium, and recently a fan lost his life. I’ll not sit back and watch this happen to any of my players or supporters.”
Despite the disruption, Nations FC remain top of the table with 60 points, heading into the final round of matches for the 2024/25 season.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to officially comment on the incident.
