Police in the Ashanti Region have officially named three French-speaking men as prime suspects in the mysterious death of a Senegalese teenager, Cheikh Toure, whose body was discovered at the Ebenezer morgue in Tafo, Kumasi.
The development marks a new phase in the ongoing investigation, which has drawn the attention of both Ghana’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Senegal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Ashanti Regional Police PRO, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the men who are yet to be identified are believed to have played a direct role in the circumstances leading to the 19-year-old’s death. “These individuals are now key suspects. We are actively pursuing them and working with relevant agencies to track their movements,” Ahianyo confirmed.
He disclosed that the men deposited the body at the morgue and gave conflicting accounts of the incident. “The deceased had wounds in his lower abdomen and around his neck. Initially, they claimed it was an accident but later said he had attempted suicide,” he noted.
The suspects reportedly fled the facility shortly after leaving the body.
A team of homicide investigators and forensic experts from Accra has joined the regional command to aid the search and piece together the events leading to Toure’s death.
Police are urging anyone with information on the suspects’ whereabouts to assist in the ongoing investigation.
