The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the incident that happened during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on Sunday.
The violence resulted in the death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The suspects, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, are currently in police custody assisting in the investigation.
Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the owner of Nsoatreman FC and former Member of Parliament, and the two other suspects have been detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit murder.
A search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected blood stains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.
The Inspector General of Police has deployed a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department to assist in the investigation.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has placed Nana Kronmansah Park under indefinite suspension and has scheduled an emergency meeting with Premier League teams, stakeholders, and supporters’ organizations to address the situation.
