Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom.
The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the 32-year-old was formally charged after evidence was submitted by detectives.
According to an official statement, Partey faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, with the alleged incidents said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, One count of sexual assault, ” statement released said.
The former Arsenal player is currently a free agent after parting ways with the London club on June 30.
Despite the legal troubles, reports indicate that clubs from Saudi Arabia, France, and even Barcelona have expressed interest in signing the midfielder.
It remains unclear how the charges will affect his football future, but the development is expected to have major implications.
Neither Partey nor his representatives have publicly responded to the charges at this time.
