Things have changed at the grassroots but we need more black, ethnic managers at the top level – Chris Hughton insists

Technical Advisor of the Ghana national team, Chris Hughton has stressed that he hopes to see more black and ethnic managers being involved at the top level.

In his view, although more black coaches are now involved at the grassroots level, the story is not the same at the top level.

He hopes that more managers from different backgrounds will be given a chance to coach top teams at the top level and not just the grassroots.

“Superficially, yes, there have been some changes,’ he says. ‘There are more black and ethnic coaches now involved at grass roots, academy level, Under 21s. But what hasn’t changed is the level of black and ethnic managers and coaches at the top level. And that will always be the barometer,” Chris Hughton told Daily Mail in an interview.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager will be at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Ghana’s Black Stars as the Technical Advisor.

At the tournament, Ghana has been pitted in Group H to face Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
