Golden Kick SC goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba has expressed deep frustration and disappointment over the controversial late penalty that handed Asante Kotoko a 2-1 victory in the 2025 FA Cup final, describing the decision as a blow to fair play and the integrity of Ghanaian football.
“I feel very bad. I don’t know why it’s happening this way; it’s heartbreaking for me,” Saaba said in a post-match interview. “I didn’t touch him. The FA should look into it and start doing things properly. If this is how we’re going to play football in Ghana, then the game is not going anywhere.”
The penalty, awarded in the 90th minute after a collision between Saaba and Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku, was met with protests from the Golden Kick bench and sparked debate among fans and analysts alike.
“The referee destroyed the game,” Saaba added. “We should be sincere with ourselves. We cannot allow this sort of activity to keep happening in Ghana football.”
The young goalkeeper’s comments have echoed widely on social media, fueling calls for stronger officiating standards and increased transparency in local competitions.
