Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus caught the attention of the English media with his superlative performance against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.
The 22-year-old scored a belter to cancel an early Mohamed Salah goal for Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Despite Ajax losing the game late to a Joel Matip header, it was the display of the Ghanaian midfielder that made the headlines in England.
Kudus came close to joining Everton in the summer transfer window.
“Ajax is matched by few clubs in top football when it comes to identifying talent and the latest gem seems to be the Ghanaian attacker Kudus,” writes the BBC.
“Ajax believes that Kudus will play a very important role this season, which will also significantly increase his transfer value,” the BBC added.
“The 22-year-old attacker was strongly linked to Everton, but Ajax blocked the deal because they were about to lose Antony to Manchester United.
“So far they have been right. He was outstanding in the 4-0 against Rangers in Ajax’s opening game and his fierce finish at Anfield was a sign of the quality that the powerful and skillful attacker possesses.”
“It soon became clear why Ajax refused to sell Kudus to Everton after they let Antony go to Manchester United,” reports The Guardian .
“They were the best team, they deserved it,” writes The Daily Mail. “But these are stressful times and Liverpool are still vulnerable.”
Mohammed Kudus has scored six goals in nine games for Ajax this season and looks to have seized the starting role from Brian Brobbey.
