Ghanaian midfielder Iddrisu Baba is inching closer to a return after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.
Baba, who plays for Spanish side UD Almería, was ruled out for the rest of the 2024/25 season after suffering an ACL injury in November.
The setback forced him to miss 31 matches across all competitions.
Now back training with the team during their pre-season camp in Marbella, Baba says he’s fully focused on getting back to competitive action.
“I don’t care if it’s in an official match or a friendly,” Baba said.
“But I don’t know how I’ll react when the gaffer tells me I’m playing. That moment will be special. I’m working hard for that surprise to come.”
The former Real Mallorca man admitted the early months of recovery were difficult both physically and mentally.
“The first two months were horrible. I was in so much pain. Sometimes I still get flashes of the injury, but I forget them quicker now. I’m fine. I’ve left those bad memories behind and I’m focused only on the day-to-day.”
With the 2025/26 Segunda División season approaching, Baba is cautiously optimistic about featuring in pre-season games.
“The Segunda is a long road. You have to take it day by day. There are so many factors you can’t control,” he said.
“Maybe it’s too soon… but you never know.”
