Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey is set for a new chapter in his career after Italian Serie A side Fiorentina agreed a deal to sign him from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The transfer, worth up to £6 million including add-ons, will see the 23-year-old full-back fly to Italy this weekend to finalize the move. Lamptey will serve as a backup to Brazilian right-back Dodo as Fiorentina begin their season.
Injuries hampered Lamptey’s campaign last season, restricting him to just 15 appearances, though he still managed to register two goals and several assists. The former Chelsea youth product, who switched nationality to represent Ghana in 2022, has made 104 appearances for Brighton since joining in 2020.
For Ghanaians, Lamptey’s move comes at a crucial time, with the right-back already named in Otto Addo’s Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali. His game time in Italy will be vital as the Black Stars look to sharpen their options on the flanks.
