Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has returned to competitive football after 335 days out with an ACL injury, making his comeback for Queens Park Rangers in the English Championship.
The 25-year-old full-back came off the bench during QPR’s draw against Bolton Wanderers, marking his first competitive appearance since being sidelined by the serious knee problem.
Lamptey’s return ends an absence that lasted almost a year and represents a significant step in his recovery. His injury brought his time with Italian club Fiorentina to an early conclusion, preventing him from featuring in competitive football for an extended period.
He joined Queens Park Rangers as a free agent during the summer, taking on a new challenge as he attempts to revive his career and rediscover his best form.
The appearance against Bolton Wanderers was an important milestone for Lamptey after a lengthy period away from competitive action. Coming on as a substitute allowed him to begin rebuilding his match fitness while returning gradually to the demands of first-team football.
For QPR, Lamptey’s return provides another option at full-back as the season continues. However, after such a long lay-off, his immediate involvement is expected to be managed carefully as he works towards regaining full sharpness.
Lamptey will now hope to earn more playing time for Queens Park Rangers as the campaign progresses. Regular involvement would give him the opportunity to restore his rhythm and form after the disruption caused by his knee injury.
His longer-term objective will also be to work his way back into contention for Ghana’s Black Stars. The return against Bolton Wanderers is the first step in that process, although he must now build on the brief appearance and re-establish himself at club level.
The full-back’s comeback comes after a difficult spell in which injury interrupted his progress at Fiorentina and kept him away from competitive football for 335 days. His move to QPR offered him the chance to restart his career, and his first appearance for the club begins that process.
Lamptey’s priority will be to continue his rehabilitation through competitive minutes, regain his match fitness and compete for a more consistent role in the Queens Park Rangers team. His return also gives him a pathway towards eventually being considered again for international duty with Ghana.
