The 2022/23 Nations League continues on Thursday the 9th of June with the meeting between Switzerland and Spain.

The match will be played at Stade de Genève, Geneva and the hosts begin this round of fixtures bottom of the group on 0 points while Spain are in third place with 2 points their name having both played twice.

Switzerland come into the match on the back of a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Portugal in Lisbon. The Portuguese opened the scoring after only 15 minutes and Switzerland were carved open again on two occasions before half time.

The Swiss managed to make the second half more respectable but Portugal did add a fourth goal to complete their win.

That defeat means Switzerland have failed to win any of their 4 most recent fixtures. In addition to the loss in Portugal, Switzerland were defeated 2-1 in the Czech Republic in their first game of this Nations League campaign and lost 2-1 in a friendly match away to England.

However, the Swiss are not easy to beat when playing at home and they are undefeated in their last 11 fixtures on home soil. Switzerland have remained undefeated in their 5 home Nations League matches.

There have been wins over Iceland, Belgium, and Ukraine, plus draws with Germany and Spain. Both teams have scored in 3 of Switzerland’s last 4 home Nations League games.

Spain make the trip to the Stade de Genève on the back of a 2-2 draw against Czech Republic in Prague. The Spanish were forced to come from behind on two occasions and found themselves in a losing position going into the 90th minute but scored the equalising goal to rescue a point.

That was the second successive draw for Spain in the 2022/23 Nations League having previously been held to a 1-1 draw at home by Portugal. This time, it was Spain who were on the end of a late equalising goal.

Having drawn their 2 Nations League matches, Spain are now undefeated in their 6 most recent fixtures in all competitions. They have lost only 1 of their last 10 matches, with recent wins coming against Greece, Sweden, Albania, and Iceland.

In terms of the Nations League, Spain are undefeated in 5 of their last 6 games. They are undefeated in their last 3 away Nations League matches but have recorded only 1 win in their last 6 on the road.

Looking ahead to the team news and Switzerland are sure to make some changes from the loss in Portugal. Breel Embolo, Noah Okafor, Remo Freuler, Mattia Bottani, and Mario Gavranović could all start.

Spain will also rotate, with Ferran Torres, Sergio Busquets, Marco Asensio, Álvaro Morata, Marcos Llorente, Jordi Alba, and Pau Torres all possibilities to come into the starting XI.

Switzerland have struggled at the beginning of this Nations League tournament but have a good recent home record. Spain have yet to register a win in the 2022/23 Nations League and could be left waiting after this match, as we predict the spoils will be shared in a 1-1 draw.
