Super Eagles players boycott training over unpaid bonuses ahead of Gabon playoff

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have reportedly boycotted training on Monday in protest over unpaid bonuses, just days before their crucial 2026 World Cup playoff against Gabon.

The West African side, having missed out on automatic qualification, are set to face Gabon on November 13 at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat. The playoff winner will then compete on November 16 for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.

Sources close to the team say both players and officials refused to train until they receive assurances regarding pending financial entitlements. The delay has raised concerns about the squad’s preparation ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has acknowledged the dispute but has not provided a specific timeline for resolving the matter.

With just two days to the playoff, the federation is reportedly racing to secure the funds and resolve the issue. Players and officials remain hopeful that discussions will conclude quickly, allowing them to resume preparations and focus on securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
