Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has issued a passionate plea to Black Stars players, calling on them to demonstrate greater commitment when representing the national team.
Appiah’s comments come amid growing concerns from football fanatics about the Black Stars’ disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
The senior national team picked up one point from available six and now sit third in Group F.
“Players who come to the national team have to be committed,” Appiah stressed.
“I’m not seeing that. They have to be committed because out of a population of over 30 million, you are part of a select 23. It’s an honor. You’re representing Ghana, and you must make it worthwhile.”
“For the past five years, we’ve been struggling, we’re not seeing that commitment. You can be a good captain, but it doesn’t mean you can win games. When you and your colleagues have the same goal, that’s when you win.”
The team will hope to bounce back against Sudan in a double header showdown of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier in October.
