Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has opened up on his sacrifices for the Black Stars during his playing days with the senior national team.
The former Juventus midfielder, who featured for Ghana between 1995 to 2010 has revealed paying for flight tickets and winning bonuses to entice players to feature for Ghana.
“There was a time, nobody was ready to play for the national team, so I used my own money to pay for flight tickets for them.” Stephen Appiah told Sunyani-based Sompa fm.
“I paid winning bonuses for my colleagues in the national team.”
The 42-year-old is the first captain to qualify Ghana for the FIFA World Cup tournament in Germany 2006.
He featured for clubs like Hearts of Oak, Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus, Fenerbahce, Bologna in Italy and Turkey.
